What Is Asado?

Asado is a traditional South American dish that is deeply rooted in the culture of countries like Argentina, Uruguay, and Chile. Also known as “barbecue,” asado involves the slow cooking of various cuts of meat over an open flame or charcoal grill.

The meat, usually beef, is seasoned with simple ingredients like salt and pepper, allowing the natural flavors to shine through. What makes asado unique is the cooking technique, which involves using a special grill called a parrilla and a specific arrangement of charcoal or wood to create an intense and smoky flavor.

A truly remarkable dining experience – one part dinner, one part theatre.

No visit to Buenos Aires would be complete without dinner at Fogón. In fact, if you travel to Buenos Aires just to dine here, it would be worth the trip.

My wife and were treated like gold by the entire staff, but a special ‘Thank You’ to Samuel, Neil and Jesus for making our final dinner in Argentina so memorable.

We’ll be back soon!

Five stars all around. I went to 5 steakhouses in my week in Buenos Aires and this was my favorite overall, factoring in the steak, sides, desserts, drink selection, prices, service, and atmosphere (and that includes places like Don Julio, Fervor, etc). Hands down the best bargain for your dollar among the top steakhouses. The sides we had were delicious, the steaks were large and tasty (you could taste the wood smoke from the grill), and the dessert was also great. Amazing and attentive service by all the staff too. My #1 steakhouse in Buenos Aires and the one I’ll judge future steakhouses against. Also, be sure to book a reservation just in case!

Parrilla Peña

Google Review: 4.5 Stars (5,792)

Argentinian restaurant

Not the usual hyped up touristy places (though some of them are great). This place has amazing old school service, and has more reasonable prices.

Google Local Guide comments about this Argentinian Grill

It’s a highly recommended place by locals and tourists alike for good asado. The prices are also reasonable, not too expensive. However, it can get very crowded especially during meal times so it’s better to dine in earlier in the day or to make a reservation prior. The portion sizes are good, and the place is great for a bite or a hang out session with friends.

Santos Manjares

Not a very known restaurant but surely a must visit one!

The prices are very cheap compared to other restaurants in Buenos Aires and the meat is better than most of them! One of the best I’ve tried in a long time.

The service is exceptional and the atmosphere is great. You can watch the grill man and there are many decorations such as football shirts and photos that makes it nice to wait for the food
